And because theyre never judgmental or critical, their presence is often particularly reassuring.
Just observing a few fish swimming in a tranquil aquarium can lower peoples pulse rates and reduce muscle tension. As any doctor will probably tell you, less stress can lead to a healthier body. Studies also indicate that children who grow up in homes with pets are less likely to develop asthma or some common allergies. Some pets need to go outdoors and get a lot of exercise, requiring their human chaperones to do the same, which also has numerous health benefits.
